Assault vs The World

It’s weekend tournament time again over at MechWarrior Online!

This weekend’s tournament, is Assault vs The World.. which, as you can guess, is the Assault ‘Mech version of the “Heavy vs The World” tournament from right after the JagerMech was available in game.

As with the Heavy vs The World, there are different brackets.. an overall bracket, and one for each Assault Chassis.  The Highlander, because it’s the newest chassis, get’s a bracket for each variant (Including the Heavy Metal).

As with all previous tournaments, only solo drops count..there have also been some scoring tweaks since the last one.  Here’s how this weekend will be scored:

• Use Best 10 Matches for each leaderboard
• Best Match is stat based scoring system
• Score Formula:
  (End of Round Damage Done) + (5 for Each Kill) + ( 3 for each assist) + (25 for Surviving) + (25 for Victory)
• 1st Tie-Breaker: Number of Matches Played  (the Less the better)
  • EG: My best 10 matches out of 20 is better than your best 10 matches out of 50
• 2nd Tie-Breaker: Team Damage (Less is better of course)
  • EG: My 10 best matches with 100 team damage total is better than your Best 10 matches with 150 team damage total.

My only complaint about the scoring, is the damage done factor.  This rewards quantity over quality.  It’s quicker/more efficient to kill an enemy ‘Mech with a head shot (also, harder), then it is to just shoot all over the ‘Mech, hoping you core one of the Torsos eventually.

PGI obviously recognizes this though, since the 2nd tie-breaker is lower damage done by the team (lower is better).  I understand why they include damage done for individual scores though, it gets everyone to engage, and keeps the tournament competitors from hanging back waiting for the chance to only take a kill shot.

This weekend will also see GXP conversion doubled (50XP per 1 MC), and the Phraken skin for the Dragon on sale.
