After having done near daily maintenance for server stability issues since the launch of their “Legacy of Romulus” expansion, the Cryptic team over at Star Trek Online is giving us our first bug squishing patch post expansion!
It’s not a big patch, and it certainly doesn’t cover all the bugs I’ve seen discussed on the forums, but, it does hit the two biggest ones people have encountered – unable to delete in-game mail, and getting kicked from “queued” maps (things like Starbase 24, and the other ‘dungeon’ type events in game).
Full notes:
-
Server Stability Updates.
-
Mail can now be deleted.
-
Players should no longer be immediately being booted from a queued map upon transferring to it.

-
The final wave of “The Defense of New Romulus” has been tuned to be more achievable.

While the frequent downtime for server stability for the last few weeks has been annoying, it’s had minimal impact on me – I’m generally participating in my adult responsibilities at the time (going to work, and other fun stuff like that). Â I do know it’s inconvenient, and I’m curious to see if the STO team follows the Neverwinter team’s lead, and puts together a little ‘thank you’ package for players. Â Yes, I know that we haven’t had the whole down for a day thing that we did in NWN, but it’s still been down a lot.
Bug fix wise.. I think this is a good start, if the STO team can give us weekly, or bi-weekly patches that squash a few bugs each time, it should address a good number of the bugs in a relatively short period of time. Â Obviously, they need the servers to be stable before they can fix the bugs.. so I’m hoping that the ‘server stability’ portion of today’s patch is one of the last we’ll see of that for awhile.
After this patch, the only outstanding issue I haven’t seen Cryptic at least talk about, is the stealth nerfing of STO’s mail, it now has a 100 attachment limit, where as for the last 3 years.. it’s been substantially higher (I still have email in there from 2+ years ago.. with nothing lost during that time). Â The big concern folks have with this, is if they’re sitting at say 90 attachments, and have 20 items up on the Exchange that don’t get bought, and thus returned to the player… what happens to those last 10?
Hopefully, now that folks can delete mail, it won’t be as big an issue, but it’d still be nice to see some official response, and and answer to the ‘where does my mail go’ question.
Patch up, and jump in game! Â STO is fun again, get in there and enjoy it!
