9/5 Devs ask you!

This week’s Devs Ask You question from the MechWarrior Tactics team is:

Sensor gameplay / Fog of War – List your favourite features about each, how you think they should be implemented, how you see them impacting the game.

Post away and answer below!

I think this is actually the best question they’ve asked yet.

I’d like to see a Fog of War system implemented in MWT.. I think it would be a good complement to the double blind style movement system of the game.

That said, I’m not sure how it could be implemented into MWT fairly with what we have seen/know about gameplay currently.

If you require visual contact to clear the FoW.. you put long range weapons at a distinct disadvantage.  If you make the FoW clear when a target comes into range.. ‘Mechs that pack short range weapons (Jenner, Spider, etc..) are then at a disadvantage.

In 3025, C3 (computers that allowed ‘Mechs to relay targeting information) weren’t in widespread production, so having a scout unit (Jenner, Commando, etc..) run around looking for the ‘Mechs wasn’t common (though, obviously a pilot could ‘radio’ in enemy locations on a map’s grid)..

I think the best compromise, would be to say that terrain features that break your LOS, would cause a FoW to be behind the feature..  So if you have your Jenner hidden behind a  peak..until an enemy unit was able to establish LOS (from any range) to your Jenner.. you were totally hidden.
